Welcome Butler Bees!
As Dean of Butler, I am very excited to welcome you to our hive and look forward to getting to know each of you throughout your time at Princeton!
As the first in my family to graduate from college, I have always been passionate about building connections across differences and making higher education more accessible to all people. Long before you were born, I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Haverford College and later became interested in the questions, “who gets into college? who doesn’t? and why?” Those questions led me to work as an admission counselor where I traveled across the country and internationally to schools off the beaten path to ensure students from all walks of life could learn more about this tiny Quaker school that had nurtured my own curiosities as an 18-year-old.
After becoming a member of the first Haverford cohort of students to be awarded the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship (MMUF), I enrolled in Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education where I conducted extensive Masters research on college preparatory programs like A Better Chance, Prep for Prep and POSSE. Later, I completed my doctoral work at Temple University and presented at multiple conferences on research topics ranging from first-gen/low income student motivations for pursuing graduate study to the use of technological innovations in education.
Beyond my love for all things education, I am obsessed with jigsaw puzzles, I practice a bit of yoga, I enjoy eating delicious foods from all over the world, and try to spend as much time as I possibly can with my inquisitive teenage daughter, Assata, our newest family addition, Aliana, and my wonderfully supportive husband, Roudy. Please do not hesitate to say hello when you see us around!
As you will soon learn, I am very approachable and understand deeply how challenging it can be to find your place and space in a new environment. I want you to remember that you are an integral member of the Butler community and we are all so excited to get to know you this year…please stop by the Butler College Office any time!
Welcome to Butler : )
