Deshawn Cook

Director of Student Life

Hello Butler! This is my first year in the Butler College community and at Princeton University. I look forward to meeting everyone and serving as a resource for all residents. Feel free to pop into my office to say hi or stop me if you see me around campus.

To share a little about myself, I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York and pride myself on being a native New Yorker. When it was time to go to college, I ventured across the state line and landed at Ramapo College of New Jersey where I majored in Psychology. During my time at Ramapo College, I served as a Resident Assistant in the Office of Residence Life and developed my passion for Student Affairs. I went on to pursue my Master of Arts in Liberal Studies degree (MALS) at Ramapo College while starting my professional life in Residence Life.

My career really took off after becoming a Complex Residence Director at Drew University. After 3 years in this role, I was promoted to Assistant Director of Residence Life. I also began serving as a Human Rights Investigator and was later promoted to Deputy Title IX Coordinator. Somewhere in the mix, I managed to complete a D.Litt in Fine Arts while remembering to feed my three fish (they are loving Princeton by the way).

When my schedule allows, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, singing, playing my instruments, dancing, painting, and marathon watching television shows. During the cold months, I can occasionally be found knitting a scarf or crocheting a blanket. If anyone knows any cool patterns, please share!
