Sept. 3, 2024
Dear Butler Sophomores,
Welcome back to campus! I’m writing to wish you an excellent first day of classes and to offer some tips that can help to position you for success this term:
Finalize your course selections (now–Sep 16 at 11:59pm)
- Add/Drop/Swap began today at 6:30am. You can make changes to your schedule until 11:59pm on September 19 without a fee.
- If you’re considering making changes to your schedule, talk with your faculty adviser (ABs) or department adviser (BSEs - you can find their name in TigerHub if you’ve forgotten) or me. Click here to make an appointment with me.
- If you have concerns about your placement, particularly in math and language courses, talk with your instructors or me, and we’ll help you to figure out next steps.
Stay in touch with your faculty adviser
- Keep your faculty adviser (AB students) or departmental adviser (BSE students) informed about how your classes are going. (I'm always happy to hear how things are going, too!)
Get to know your professors by stopping by office hours
- Your professors’ office hours are listed on your course syllabi. Office hours can be hugely helpful - make a point of attending office hours at the start of the term so that you make it into a habit.
- If you have any questions about how to approach an absence from class, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
Connect with academic support
- Contact your professor or preceptor with your questions.
- Attend McGraw Center first week events to get advice from Academic Life & Learning Consultants about how to approach academics at Princeton and gain practical strategies for learning, studying, and time management. Learn about McGraw study hall and individual tutoring, and how to start your courses off strong so you can make the most of all that Princeton has to offer
- Make an appointment at the Writing Center for help at any stage of the writing process.
- Form or join a study group.
- Reach out to me, you ADSL, Joe Rolón, your faculty adviser or departmental adviser, any of the Butler PAAs, or your RGS. These are all great places to start, and we’re all here to help!
Have a great first week of classes!
All best wishes,
Dr. Lazen
